Rick and Morty spinoff President Curtis gets season 2 renewal two days before its July 26 premiere

Adult Swim's Rick and Morty spinoff President Curtis has secured a second season before a single episode has aired. The early renewal was revealed during a San Diego Comic-Con panel on Friday, July 24, 2026, with star Keith David and the creative team on hand. Production on the new season is already in progress.

The announcement

The panel featured David alongside co-stars Stephanie Beatriz and Jim Rash, as well as co-creators and executive producers Dan Harmon and James Siciliano. Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen framed the pickup as a vote of confidence in the series.

President Curtis quickly proved himself worthy of another term! With Keith David's inimitably endearing performance and the creativity of Dan, James and the entire show team, this series and this President are what the people need more of -- even if they don't know it yet.

The show's premise

Set in the Rick and Morty universe, President Curtis follows the title character, voiced by David, as he leads the free world against threats that Rick Sanchez would ignore. The crises range from interdimensional diplomacy and paranormal investigations to unexplained phenomena and cryptid encounters. Beatriz plays Banks, the chief of staff with a robot brain, while Rash portrays Agent O'Doyle, who is half-leprechaun. The character of President Curtis first appeared in the Rick and Morty season two episode "Get Schwifty."

Season two plans

According to the creative team, the second season will introduce dangerous new threats, complicated alliances, and an array of bizarre missions. Deadline reported that the episodes will continue the adventures of President Curtis and his team as they confront new cryptid threats, unexpected allies, and increasingly bizarre sci-fi missions. Executive producers Danielle Uhlarik, Monica Mitchell, and Steve Levy are also returning alongside Harmon and Siciliano.

Premiere and reception

Season one premieres Sunday, July 26 on Adult Swim, immediately following the season nine finale of Rick and Morty. Episodes will be available to stream the next day on HBO Max. The Hollywood Reporter's chief television critic Daniel Fienberg reviewed the first season, noting that later episodes "are funnier, wilder and better focused than the opener." Gizmodo's io9 also published a positive review, calling the show confident in finding its audience. Rick and Morty itself has been renewed through season 12, and a feature film version is reportedly in early talks at Warner Bros.
