Poland sends five clubs into European qualifiers, chasing first top-10 UEFA ranking since 2016
For the first time, five Polish teams enter European competition, with two in Champions League qualifying. Overtaking the Czech Republic for 10th place would secure a direct league-phase berth for the 2027 Polish champion.
A record five clubs
For the first time, Poland will field five teams in European competition: Lech Poznań and Górnik Zabrze in the Champions League second qualifying round, Jagiellonia Białystok in the Europa League third qualifying round, and Raków Częstochowa and GKS Katowice in the Conference League second qualifying round. Lech will face Denmark's AGF Aarhus on Tuesday, while Górnik takes on Turkish side Fenerbahce the same evening. Raków and GKS begin their campaigns on Thursday. Jagiellonia's entry is scheduled for a later round.
The ranking race
Poland starts the season at 11th place in the UEFA country ranking with 42.125 points, though one outlet reports the position as 10th. The coefficient is calculated over five seasons, with the 2021/22 campaign (4.625 points) dropping off and the 2025/26 season (15.750 points) added. The Czech Republic holds 10th place with 43.025 points, while Greece is 12th at 40.412. Overtaking the Czechs would lift Poland into the top 10 for the first time.

What's at stake
A top-10 finish at the end of the season would guarantee the Polish champion a direct place in the Champions League league phase for the 2027 edition. No Polish club has reached the group or league stage since Legia Warsaw in 2016. The financial and sporting rewards are substantial, making every point earned in the autumn qualifiers critical. Each win by a Polish team adds 0.2 points to the country coefficient (0.1 for a draw), with bonus points available for reaching the league phase and advancing in knockout rounds.
The clubs' campaigns
Lech Poznań enters the Champions League via the champions path, while Górnik Zabrze takes the league path. Both start in the second qualifying round. Raków Częstochowa and GKS Katowice begin in the Conference League's second round, and Jagiellonia Białystok joins the Europa League in the third round. The staggered entries reflect Poland's improved ranking, which now grants two Champions League spots instead of one.
The path ahead
Poland's rise has been steady: two years ago the country was 21st, and by the end of 2024/25 it had climbed to 15th, driven by Legia and Jagiellonia reaching the Conference League quarter-finals. The 2025/26 season yielded 32 wins and 11 draws, plus 7.5 bonus points, divided by four clubs to produce a coefficient of 15.750. Now with five clubs, the division is less favorable, but the larger contingent increases the chances of accumulating points.

Points system
UEFA awards 2 points for a win in the league phase or beyond, and 1 point in qualifying rounds; draws yield 1 and 0.5 points respectively. Bonus points are given for participation in the league phase, final table position, and each knockout round progression, with the highest bonuses in the Champions League and the lowest in the Conference League. The total is divided by the number of clubs a country has entered (five for Poland this season).
