Poland Issues First-Degree Weather Warnings for Heat and Severe Storms
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management has issued first-degree weather warnings across several Polish provinces for high temperatures reaching 31 degrees Celsius and storms carrying heavy rain.
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) issued first-degree weather warnings across multiple regions of Poland on Wednesday, cautioning against high temperatures and localized severe thunderstorms.
Heat warnings cover Silesian (excluding Lubliniec and Kłobuck counties), Lesser Poland (excluding Tatra county), Subcarpathian (excluding southern counties), Lublin, Holy Cross, eastern and south-eastern Łódź, eastern, central, and southern Masovian, and Siemiatycze county in Podlaskie. Maximum daytime temperatures in these areas are forecast between 29 and 31 degrees Celsius. These alerts take effect between 13:00 and 14:00 on Wednesday and remain in force until 18:00 on the same day.
Separate warnings for heavy rain and thunderstorms were issued for parts of Lower Silesian (Kłodzko and Ząbkowice counties) and Opole (Nysa, Prudnik, Krapkowice, Głubczyce, and Kędzierzyn-Koźle counties). Forecasters expect rainfall between 25 and 40 litres per square metre, wind gusts reaching up to 70 kilometres per hour, and possible hail. The storm warnings remain active from 17:00 on Wednesday until 05:00 on Thursday.
