Pitbull and 22,141 bald-capped fans set 'largest gathering of people wearing bald caps' Guinness record at London's BST Hyde Park
The American-Cuban rapper, 45, headlined BST Hyde Park on 10 July where a crowd of 22,141 supporters wearing latex bald caps smashed a previously untried world record amid near-31 °C heat.
The record attempt
A sea of shiny latex domes descended on London's Hyde Park on Friday, 10 July, as 22,141 Pitbull fans donned bald caps during the rapper's British Summer Time (BST) headline set. The effort, verified by Guinness World Records adjudicator Will Munford, set the first-ever record for the "largest gathering of people wearing bald caps." The threshold for official recognition had been set at 2,000 participants; organisers exceeded it more than tenfold. Temperatures near 31 °C did little to deter the crowd.
This is a completely new record because it has never been attempted before.
The bald-e movement
The bald-cap tradition emerged organically about a year ago, when fans calling themselves "Bald-es" began arriving at Pitbull concerts dressed in his signature look: aviator sunglasses, a goatee and moustache, a black suit, and the characteristic latex bald cap. The trend went viral on social media, eventually catching the attention of content creator Jack Remmington and BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg James. Over eight months, the pair campaigned to turn the fan meme into a certified world record, contacting both Guinness World Records and the artist himself.
I put out a little video saying, 'Do you know what we would be really good at as Brits? Putting on bald caps and breaking a world record.'
Counting the crowd
At 5 p.m. on Friday, the record attempt officially began. A team of 400 trained volunteers individually checked each participant, while drones captured footage analysed by 42 counters backstage. The rules were strict: all hair had to be fully tucked under the cap, the accessory had to remain in place for at least one full minute during the count, and naturally bald people could not count unless they too wore a cap. Pitbull himself, who is bald, donned a bald cap to be included in the tally.
You do need a bald cap on your head for this to count. I know you're bald, I know you.
Among the record-holders
Participants spanned all ages. One mother and daughter told reporters they had glued their bald caps on as early as 9 a.m. before catching a train to London. Eight-month-old Thomas became one of the youngest record-holders; his parents had bought tickets before he was born and decided his first concert should be Pitbull's. Student Ella McGovern, 23, summed up the mood: "It's incredible to be part of something like this: we're going to make history!"

The festival performance
After the certificate was awarded, Pitbull launched into his set with "Don't Stop the Party." The concert drew nearly 70,000 spectators overall, making it the largest show ever staged at the BST Hyde Park summer series. The rapper, born Armando Christian Pérez, also performed alongside Kesha and delivered his signature rallying cry "dale!" to a crowd that had just entered the Guinness World Records book.
