Jacek Sasin launches ‘Po Pierwsze Polska’ association inside PiS to boost Czarnek’s PM bid, as tensions with Morawiecki faction deepen
On Tuesday evening Law and Justice politicians formed a new association led by Jacek Sasin, pledging full loyalty to Jarosław Kaczyński while rowing in behind Przemysław Czarnek as the party’s prime ministerial candidate.
Announcement and mission
On 9 June 2026, in the headquarters of Poland’s largest opposition party, Law and Justice (PiS), lawmakers under former deputy prime minister Jacek Sasin registered the association “Po Pierwsze Polska” (Poland First). Sasin, the association’s newly elected president, spelled out its purpose on social media.
Our mission is to strengthen the unity of our party, actively support the campaign of Professor Przemysław Czarnek, and develop programmatic solutions that will open the way for Poland and Poles to a safe and prosperous future under a PiS government.
The move comes just weeks after former prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki set up his own association, “Rozwój Plus”, a think‑tank styled grouping that drew several dozen PiS parliamentarians and was widely seen as a parallel power centre. “Po Pierwsze Polska” is explicitly tied to the official party leadership’s preferred candidate for prime minister – Czarnek – and was described by PiS parliamentary caucus head Mariusz Błaszczak as a “second lung” of the party.
Leadership and initial membership
Sasin announced that more than 100 individuals had already submitted membership declarations. The association’s board includes three vice‑presidents: former Sejm speaker Elżbieta Witek and MEPs Tobiasz Bocheński and Patryk Jaki. MP Michał Moskal serves as secretary, while MP Marek Wesoły is treasurer. Sasin noted that formal registration with the National Court Register (KRS) is now under way and further details would be provided soon.
Loyalty clause and organisational limits
In a pointed contrast to Morawiecki’s venture, Sasin stressed that “Po Pierwsze Polska” will not operate outside the party structure nor build its own field network. “As members of the association we declare full loyalty to Law and Justice and our leader, President Jarosław Kaczyński,” he wrote. Błaszczak, speaking to Polsat News, endorsed both associations but cautioned against a “party within a party”, insisting that expert‑oriented associations were welcome as long as they did not fracture unity.
Both. Equally. Two lungs.
Błaszczak said he tries to support all his caucus colleagues regardless of which association they join, while reiterating that a factional split makes no sense.
Rivalry with Morawiecki’s “Rozwój Plus”
The launch is impossible to separate from the friction triggered by Morawiecki’s earlier move. RMF24 reported that “Po Pierwsze Polska” was set up explicitly in opposition to “Rozwój Plus”. A section of the party leadership viewed Morawiecki’s group as an attempt to build a separate power base after Czarnek was designated the candidate for prime minister. Some PiS politicians have privately said the former premier should be expelled for violating the party statute, while others warn that members of “Rozwój Plus” risk being excluded from PiS electoral lists. By gathering over 100 signatures and placing itself firmly under Kaczyński’s wing, “Po Pierwsze Polska” aims to consolidate the pro‑Czarnek camp and marginalise the Morawiecki‑aligned wing ahead of the national convention.
