During the event, Raimundo answered questions regarding intense political friction surrounding the executive and confirmed that party leadership has already reached a definitive voting decision on an upcoming censure motion. However, the communist leader declined to reveal the direction of the PCP vote during the ongoing gathering. Raimundo insisted that the party event would not alter its schedule or priorities under pressure from outside political forces.

It would be the last thing needed for Festa do Avante, with this dimension of solidarity, with this capacity for mobilization, with this energy, with this confidence, with this commitment to a new course for Portugal, to be conditioned by the agenda of others.

Scrutiny of Minister Luís Neves

Raimundo concentrated his remarks on the situation facing Internal Administration Minister Luís Neves, affirming that the official owes extensive explanations concerning the controversies that prompted the censure initiative. The PCP leader stated that the issue has expanded beyond the actions of a single cabinet member because the executive allowed itself to be drawn deeply into the dispute. In Raimundo's assessment, accountability has transferred from Luís Neves to the administration as a whole, requiring the prime minister's cabinet to draw formal conclusions and implement necessary changes without delay.

For a long time we have been saying that the problem today is no longer a problem of Minister Luís Neves, it is a problem of the government. The government let itself be dragged into this process, and therefore the responsibility stopped being that of Minister Luís Neves and became that of the entire government, which will have to draw conclusions from this process.

Parliamentary debate on Chega's motion

The parliamentary dispute stems from a motion of censure introduced by Chega, which is scheduled for debate in the Assembly of the Republic on Tuesday. Raimundo criticized the construction of Chega's proposal, pointing out that the text focuses narrowly on controversies involving Luís Neves rather than addressing the broader economic and social direction of the executive. He argued that the challenges confronting citizens cannot be reduced to a single minister, which requires the PCP to examine both the content and the procedural form of the proposal. Although Raimundo affirmed that the government and its policies fully merit censure, he rejected aligning with what he termed demagogy and folklore from Chega.

Legislative tools and mass mobilization

Addressing future steps, Raimundo announced that the PCP does not rule out tabling its own independent motion of censure against the government. He emphasized that stopping current government policies as quickly as possible requires directly confronting the executive through all available avenues. The general secretary outlined a strategy combining legislative measures with popular protest, mass mobilization, and social action across the country. Raimundo concluded that the PCP will retain full discretion over when and how to deploy its legislative prerogatives, using parliamentary censure at the moment the party considers most effective.

It is necessary to stop the government and its policy, and we have various instruments at our disposal, starting with strength, action, mobilization, and the mass struggle, to give social dimension to that demand.
