Carolina Hurricanes move one win from Stanley Cup with 4-2 Game 5 victory over Vegas Golden Knights
The Carolina Hurricanes beat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday night in Raleigh, taking a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Game 5 recap
The Hurricanes fell behind early when Pavel Dorofeyev scored on a power play for Vegas in the seventh minute. Carolina tied it before the first intermission on a goal by captain Jordan Staal, and added two more in the second period to take a 3-1 lead into the break. Andrej Swetschnikow struck on the power play in the third to make it 4-1, and though Dorofeyev got his second of the night late, the Hurricanes closed out the 4-2 win.

Key contributors
Nikolaj Ehlers set up the equalizer and two other goals, extending his final series tally to eight points. Swetschnikow scored both of his goals with the man advantage, and Staal became the first player to light the lamp in every game of this year's final. For Vegas, Dorofeyev accounted for all the offense with his two tallies.
Looking ahead
The Hurricanes, who won their only other Stanley Cup in 2006, now need just one more victory to claim the franchise's second title. The Golden Knights will try to stave off elimination in Game 6, set for Sunday night in Las Vegas — early Monday morning Central European Time. If they succeed, the decisive Game 7 would be back in Raleigh.
Off-ice note
Norwegian soccer star Erling Haaland watched from the stands; his national team camp was being held in nearby Greensboro.
