Two men charged with murder after body found in burned car trunk in Oise
Two men have been charged with murder after a body was found in the trunk of a burned car in the Oise department. The suspects, aged 26 and 46, were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the alleged crime.
Discovery
On Sunday morning, a witness spotted smoke rising from the forest of Plainval in the Oise department. Firefighters arrived to find a car engulfed in flames. In the trunk lay a charred body, later found to have numerous fractures and injuries. The exact cause of death is yet to be determined.
Investigation
Because of the body's severe degradation, formal identification awaits DNA analysis. Investigators located and questioned the vehicle's owner, providing a lead on the presumed identity of the victim. The victim had reportedly been involved in an altercation with two men at a local festival in Maignelay-Montigny on Saturday evening, about 10 kilometers away.
Suspects and charges
Two men, aged 26 and 46, were arrested on Monday. They were known to authorities for prior traffic violations and drug use. On Wednesday, they were charged with murder and tampering with evidence. They did not confess during custody. The prosecutor noted that the suspects were in a "manifest state of intoxication" at the time of the alleged offense.
They remain presumed innocent at this stage of the procedure.
