Lando Norris wins Dutch Grand Prix by 11.5 seconds as Max Verstappen retires early
McLaren driver Lando Norris overtook Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli on lap 55 to win the Dutch Grand Prix, while home favourite Max Verstappen retired on the opening laps.
Early stoppage at Zandvoort
The Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort, the 12th round of the championship, marked the final Formula 1 event at the venue after organizers chose not to renew the event contract. The race began under cool conditions, with air temperatures recorded at 18.9 degrees Celsius, track temperatures at 33 degrees, and wind blowing across the coastal dunes. Rain falling minutes before the start left sections of the circuit damp, particularly the final banked turn leading onto the main straight. Starting from seventh on the grid, home driver Max Verstappen slid across the wet curb on the opening laps, lost control of his Red Bull, and hit the barrier. Verstappen walked away unhurt, but the damage forced his retirement without completing a full racing lap, prompting stewards to stop the race with a red flag.
Battle through the pit phases
At the standing restart, Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli reacted swiftly from third on the grid to pass pole-sitter Lando Norris into the first corner. Antonelli had previously passed his teammate George Russell on the initial start, giving Mercedes the early lead in the 72-lap contest. As the race progressed, differing pit stop windows and tire wear rates altered the order among the front-runners. Russell, who won the Saturday sprint race, defended third position while Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton temporarily gained track position on newer tires. Norris managed his tire wear in third place, remaining within striking distance of the leaders before making his final tactical push.

Norris claims victory on lap 55
On lap 55 of 72, Norris used his fresher rubber to launch a double overtake on race leader Hamilton and second-placed Antonelli in a single sequence. After clearing both cars, the McLaren driver pulled away on hard compound tires to establish a commanding gap. Following the race, Norris praised the collective execution from his garage.
It was an incredible race and I am very happy to have achieved the victory again. The team did a fantastic job.
Norris took the checkered flag 11.536 seconds clear of Antonelli, securing his second consecutive race victory of the season.
Championship standings and finishing order
Antonelli crossed the line in second place after receiving track position through Mercedes team orders seven laps from the finish, while Russell held off a late charge from Hamilton to secure third place, 15.906 seconds behind Norris. Hamilton finished fourth (+16.755s) and Charles Leclerc claimed fifth (+17.258s), putting both Ferrari cars inside the top five. Antonelli elevated his drivers' championship total to 242 points, extending his advantage to 59 points over both Hamilton and Russell, though the Italian driver must serve an engine grid penalty at the upcoming Italian Grand Prix in Monza. McLaren's Oscar Piastri finished sixth (+32.3s), and Red Bull's Liam Lawson secured seventh (+79.9s) despite serving an in-race time penalty. Nico Hülkenberg finished eighth for Audi, Fernando Alonso placed ninth for Aston Martin, and Pierre Gasly completed the points positions in tenth for Alpine.
