Over 148,000 Romanian eighth-graders sit Mathematics exam for National Evaluation 2026
The written Mathematics test for Romania's 2026 National Evaluation started today at 9:00 a.m., with over 148,000 eighth-grade graduates enrolled. The two-hour exam consists of three subjects covering algebra, geometry, and applied problems, with the first results due July 1.
Exam day and logistics
Today's written Mathematics test for the National Evaluation begins at 9:00 a.m., with access to exam centers between 8:00 and 8:30. Over 148,000 eighth-grade graduates are enrolled, distributed across nearly 3,000 schools and centers nationwide. Students must present a valid identity document and use blue ink or ballpoint pens for written responses; black pencil is permitted only for diagrams and geometric constructions. Ruler, compass, and protractor are allowed. The test lasts 120 minutes, starting after the identification box is completed. Candidates with approved special conditions can receive up to two extra hours.
Subject structure and scoring
The exam paper, published by the Ministry of Education, is divided into three subjects worth 90 points, plus 10 points awarded from the get-go (oficiu), making a maximum of 100. Subject I consists of six multiple-choice exercises focusing on algebra. Subject II also has six multiple-choice items, this time targeting geometry in both plane and space. Subject III requires full, step-by-step solutions for complex problems, often combining algebra and geometry. The model for 2026 mirrors the format seen in 2024 and 2025.
Previous years and sample
Past editions included items like a 2025 problem where students determined prices of notebooks, pens, and pencils using percentages, and a simulation that ended with a regular tetrahedron problem. Analysts caution that looking at past subjects reveals the types of exercises considered essential, not a surefire prediction for the current session.
For each written test, the resolution time is 120 minutes, calculated after completing the identification box. Students for whom this request was approved by the County/Bucharest Commission, based on the procedure for equalizing opportunities for pupils with visual, hearing, and neurodevelopmental disorders who take national exams in 2026, benefit from an extension of up to two hours.

Results and contestations
Initial results will be published online and in schools on July 1, by 12:00 p.m., using anonymized individual codes. Students and parents can view the papers, then file an appeal if they disagree with the mark. The final grade may increase or decrease after re-correction, and it is definitive.
