Greek Deputy Minister Giorgos Mylonakis discharged home after two-month recovery from brain aneurysm

Greece’s Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Giorgos Mylonakis was discharged from a rehabilitation centre on 14 June, returning home to continue recovery from a brain aneurysm rupture he suffered in April.

The initial medical emergency

Giorgos Mylonakis, Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister of Greece, suffered a brain aneurysm rupture on 15 April 2026 while at the Maximos Mansion, the seat of the Greek government. He was immediately hospitalised at Evangelismos Hospital in Athens, where he remained in the Intensive Care Unit for 26 days. His condition was described as serious but stable, beginning a protracted medical effort.

A two-month recovery journey

Mylonakis was discharged from the ICU on 11 May and transferred to a specialised rehabilitation centre in Germany to continue his treatment abroad. His health improved steadily over the following weeks, and on 28 May he returned to Greece. He was admitted directly to a domestic rehabilitation and recovery centre, where he undertook an intensive programme until today. Medical staff characterised his progress as particularly satisfactory, noting significant improvement. The discharge on 14 June marks the completion of the inpatient phase of his recovery.

Return home and family support

Mylonakis will now continue his rehabilitation at home, surrounded by his wife, TV presenter Tina Messaropoulou, and their sons Konstantinos and Thodoris. His wife is due to return to her television programme Happy Day on Monday 16 June. Petros Arvanitakis, a close collaborator of the minister, announced the discharge with an emotional message, writing:

Today is an especially emotional day. After two months of hospitalisation, treatment and intensive rehabilitation, initially at Evangelismos and subsequently in Germany and Greece, Giorgos returns today close to Tina, Konstantinos and Thodoris, to his family, to the people who stood tirelessly by him, and to his friends and colleagues who never ceased to support him with their love and presence.

Arvanitakis described the recovery as a victory of will, love and human endurance, opening a new chapter of hope and optimism.
