Monaco rejects PSG's €35m Akliouche bid, opens door to Pogba and Dier exits
AS Monaco director general Thiago Scuro confirmed the club turned down Paris Saint-Germain's €35 million offer for Maghnes Akliouche, while indicating that Paul Pogba and Eric Dier may depart this summer as the club trims its wage bill under DNCG oversight.
PSG's opening bid for Akliouche rejected
Paris Saint-Germain made a first offer of €35 million for the 24-year-old midfielder, but Monaco considers it €15–20 million below his true value. Thiago Scuro said the club is ready to keep Akliouche, who is under contract until June 2028, if no satisfactory agreement is reached.
He added that discussions are ongoing daily, but any deal must suit the club's interests. Akliouche, currently at the World Cup with France, was also the subject of transfer talk last summer but stayed and later earned his international call-up.Monaco is ready to keep Akliouche if there is no good agreement.
Pogba's future in doubt after just six appearances
Paul Pogba, 33, arrived on a free transfer last summer after two years without competitive football, but made only six appearances totalling 115 minutes. Scuro acknowledged the project had not worked.
The midfielder's future will depend on a week-by-week assessment during pre-season and the decision of new coach Filipe Luis. Scuro confirmed Pogba is susceptible to a transfer. When he arrived here, he was very positive, he helped the young players. But the truth is also that the project with him did not work well last season. When we started it, the expectations we had were very different.
With Paul, the relationship has always been open and transparent. If at some point the objectives of the player and the club diverge, we need to find a solution.
Dier also at risk
Eric Dier, 32, joined from Bayern Munich in 2025 but managed only 13 appearances, hampered by calf and hamstring injuries. His contract runs until June 2028 and is among the club's largest. Scuro said Dier's situation is also under review.
The club has already spoken with Dier and his agents to explore solutions. When we have to lighten the wage bill, the players with the biggest contracts become subjects.
Financial pressure from DNCG
Monaco is operating under the financial oversight of the DNCG, French football's financial watchdog, and must reduce its overall wage bill while achieving a positive transfer balance. Scuro stressed that Akliouche and Balogun are not necessarily the first to leave, and that departures will depend on how the summer unfolds. He pointed to last summer, when Akliouche stayed despite speculation, as an example of the club's willingness to retain key players if the right offer does not arrive.
Ansu Fati stays
Amid the uncertainty, one piece of clarity: Monaco has exercised its €11 million purchase option for Ansu Fati, who will remain at the club after his loan spell.
