Late deflection secures draw

Forward Matheus Cunha produced an 89th-minute equaliser, collecting the ball on the left wing, cutting inside, and unleashing a shot that took a deflection off Fulham defender Nico Affengruber before beating goalkeeper Bernd Leno. The late strike preserved a point for the visitors after they fell behind in the second half. Defensive mishap breaks deadlock

The opening goal arrived in bizarre circumstances after 63 minutes of play. Following an errant Manchester United pass out from the back and a defensive recovery by Fulham defender Calvin Bassey, the hosts pressed forward into the penalty area. Goalkeeper Senne Lammens made an initial save to deny Fulham, but the ball rebounded off the leg of defender Lisandro Martínez and rolled directly into his own net. The Argentine defender's unfortunate deflection handed Álvaro Arbeloa's side a 1-0 advantage just past the hour mark. Cunha also forced a save from Leno with a long-range drive before the interval. Carrick addresses mounting pressure

The result follows a turbulent week for Manchester United, who suffered a Premier League derby defeat against Manchester City, where refereeing authorities later acknowledged an assessment error on the decisive goal, alongside a League Cup exit to Brighton after surrendering a two-goal lead. Carrick, who took over permanently after initially serving as interim manager following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim earlier in the year, dismissed questions regarding his job security following the match.

It is ridiculous to think that way in the position I am in, that is not even on my radar. It is two or three games where we did not get certain results and that is two or three games too many because I really hate losing. But that does not mean the world has collapsed.

Carrick also addressed scrutiny regarding his touchline demeanour and accepted responsibility for the team's recent form.

Do I need to show more emotion? In what way? I am asking, how? What do you want me to show? The responsibility is mine, I am fine with that. It is not about a blame game, we all look for things to analyse, point fingers and find culprits. Blame me, there is no problem.

Fulham entered the contest following a draw against Liverpool at Anfield and a League Cup win over West Ham, with Arbeloa fielding Gonzalo García in attack alongside Oscar Bobb, Josh King, and Alex Iwobi.
