FX's 'Love Story' picks up six Emmy nominations, but Paul Anthony Kelly misses out on lead actor nod
The FX docudrama about John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette received six nominations, including best limited series, but star Paul Anthony Kelly was overlooked. Sarah Pidgeon earned her first Emmy nod for playing Bessette.
The nominations
FX's "Love Story" received six Emmy nominations on Wednesday, including outstanding limited or anthology series. Sarah Pidgeon earned her first nomination for lead actress in a limited series for playing Carolyn Bessette, and Constance Zimmer was nominated for supporting actress as Bessette's mother. Paul Anthony Kelly, who stars as John F. Kennedy Jr., was not nominated, a notable omission given the show's buzz.
Pidgeon's reaction
Pidgeon spoke to Deadline from Paris, where she is attending Couture Week as a Chanel Ambassador.
She also praised Zimmer and Kelly, calling the cast "a real family."I feel very, very honored to be recognized along by so many incredible talented actors. I think I'm just trying to metabolize the really happy, wonderful news.
Cultural footprint
The series became FX's most-streamed limited series on Hulu and Disney+, fueling a wave of '90s nostalgia. Fans replicated Bessette's fashion, competed in JFK Jr. look-alike contests, and flocked to the couple's old Manhattan haunts.
Among the field
With six nominations, "Love Story" had the lowest tally among the best limited series contenders. "Beef" led with 16, followed by "DTF St. Louis" (13), "The Beast in Me" (9), and "All Her Fault" (7).
