Leclerc wins British Grand Prix as Antonelli's title lead shrinks after late technical failure
Charles Leclerc ended a 623-day victory drought at Silverstone, capitalising on a late suspension failure for championship leader Kimi Antonelli and a crash by Max Verstappen.
Leclerc ends long wait
Charles Leclerc claimed his first Formula 1 victory since the 2024 United States Grand Prix, leading a Ferrari one-two at the line before a late strategy call dropped Lewis Hamilton to third. The Monegasque driver seized the lead from pole-sitter Kimi Antonelli at the start and controlled the race thereafter, surviving a mid-race challenge from the Mercedes teenager and a safety-car finish.
Finally! Hard work pays off.
Antonelli's afternoon unravels
Antonelli, who had won Saturday's sprint and taken pole, lost the lead into Turn 1 and spent the race fighting back. He retook second from Hamilton on lap 11 and was closing on Leclerc when, with ten laps remaining, he reported a broken suspension. The Italian limped to the pits and was classified 16th after a five-second penalty for track-limits infringements, leaving him scoreless for the second time this season.
The suspension is broken.
Verstappen crashes out
Max Verstappen's difficult weekend ended in the gravel trap four laps from the finish. Running third, the Red Bull driver lost control at high speed and retired, triggering the safety car that would lead to the race finishing under caution. His frustration was audible over team radio.
This car, unbelievable.
Championship tightens
Antonelli's lead over teammate George Russell, who inherited second place, has shrunk to 25 points. Hamilton sits a further seven points back in third, with Leclerc now fourth in the standings. The result marks the fourth different winner in as many races and intensifies the title fight between Mercedes and Ferrari.

Audi and Horner make headlines
Gabriel Bortoleto gave Audi its second points finish of the season with eighth place, while teammate Nico Hülkenberg retired with a technical problem on lap 38. Off the track, former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner appeared in the paddock for the first time since his departure a year ago, saying he had enjoyed his break and was open to future opportunities.
I've enjoyed my time off. For the first time I had time away from the hamster wheel.
