Greece's ruling New Democracy party elects Konstantinos Kyranakis as its new political committee secretary
Konstantinos Kyranakis was elected by acclamation as the new secretary of New Democracy's political committee, following a nomination by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
A unanimous election
Konstantinos Kyranakis was elected the new secretary of the political committee of Greece's ruling New Democracy party on the afternoon of 10 June 2026. He was elected by acclamation during a meeting of the party body. Kyranakis was the sole candidate for the position, nominated by Prime Minister and party president Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
A call for a winning mentality
In his first address to the political committee, Kyranakis struck a combative tone. He told party members that the battle has already begun and urged them to adopt a winner's psychology, rejecting any trace of defeatism.
The battle has already begun. I ask all of you to have a winner's psychology. To have a winner's psychology and to expel every trace of defeatism from within us.
Congratulations from senior figures
Defence Minister Nikos Dendias congratulated Kyranakis in a post on X, wishing him success in his new duties. Deputy Prime Minister and party vice-president Kostis Chatzidakis also offered his congratulations, describing Kyranakis as a young and dynamic politician from the party's youth wings, DAP and ONNED, and expressing confidence he would succeed.
He is a young and dynamic politician, who comes from DAP and ONNED and who I am certain will respond with great success to his new duties. All together we will fight so that New Democracy is again self-reliant and Kyriakos Mitsotakis is Prime Minister!
Mitsotakis signals renewal and election readiness
Prime Minister Mitsotakis used the committee session to send a clear political signal of unity, renewal and organisational readiness ahead of the path to the 2027 national elections. He highlighted that the renewal of the political committee's composition reaches 75%, framing it not merely as an organisational change but as a sign of political rejuvenation and momentum.
Mitsotakis stressed that New Democracy retains the ability to renew itself, integrate new cadres and maintain its historical continuity. He outlined a government strategy combining reforms with economic support measures, pointing to tax reductions as a central policy choice aimed at boosting disposable income and the country's economic prospects. The prime minister also emphasised the importance of the pre-congress dialogue and the recent party congress in strengthening the party's cohesion and democratic character.
