Poland scrambles jets
Poland's Operational Command launched fighter jets around 1:38 a.m. as Russian long-range aviation carried out strikes on Ukraine. French fighters also took part in securing Polish airspace, and Dutch air defence systems supported the operation. The mission ended at approximately 4:30 a.m. with no violation of Polish airspace recorded. Polish forces thanked NATO's Air Command and the allied nations for their assistance.
Zelensky's warning
President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned on Sunday that Russia was preparing a massive attack, timed to follow US Independence Day and precede the NATO summit in Ankara. He renewed his appeal to Western partners for more air defence systems, specifically additional missiles for Patriot batteries.
