Russia launched ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv and Odesa overnight, killing one person in the capital and injuring 11 others across both cities, Ukrainian officials said.
Overnight attack on Kyiv
Russia targeted Kyiv with ballistic missiles in the early hours of 8 July, marking the third such attack on the Ukrainian capital within a week. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that strikes hit the left-bank Desnianskyi district, igniting warehouses, and the Sviatoshynskyi district, where a non-residential building caught fire. Emergency services were deployed to the scenes, and some districts experienced power and water outages.

Casualties and damage
The Polish Press Agency reported one fatality in Kyiv, while local authorities cited by TVN24 said two people were injured, one requiring hospitalisation. Fires damaged an administrative building, a car workshop, and several trams. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine confirmed ongoing firefighting operations at the affected sites.
Air raid alerts across Ukraine
Air raid sirens sounded in at least 11 oblasts overnight, including Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Odesa, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv. The widespread alerts underscored the broad geographic threat of the missile barrage.
Earlier strike on Odesa
Hours earlier, on the evening of 7 July, a Russian ballistic missile carrying a cluster warhead struck Odesa. The attack injured nine people and sparked a fire at a production facility, destroying several cars, according to Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa regional military administration.
