Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty leaves practice with right leg injury
Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty was helped off the field after injuring his right leg while attempting to catch a pass during Sunday's practice in Henderson, Nevada.
Injury during indoor practice
Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty suffered an apparent right leg injury during a team practice session on Sunday afternoon in Henderson, Nevada. The 22-year-old running back ran a pass route during a team period and dove for an attempted reception from quarterback Kirk Cousins. The throw landed low and beyond Jeanty's reach, causing him to fall awkwardly onto the indoor turf surface. Jeanty stayed down on the turf before team athletic trainers and medical personnel rushed onto the field to evaluate him. Teammates inside the club's indoor practice facility went quiet as the medical staff provided treatment, and the entire team knelt and prayed on the field. Jeanty had to be assisted off the field by medical staff, unable to put any weight or pressure on his right leg, and he did not return for the remainder of the session.
Rookie season statistics
Jeanty entered his second NFL season following a debut campaign in which he served as the central rushing option for Las Vegas. Selected sixth overall out of Boise State in the 2025 draft, Jeanty rushed for 975 yards and five touchdowns in his first professional season. He also contributed through the passing game, recording 55 receptions for 346 yards and five receiving touchdowns. Jeanty achieved these figures despite running behind an offensive line that ranked statistically as the worst in the league. Data from Pro Football Reference showed that Jeanty averaged 1.6 yards per attempt before contact, which was the third-lowest average across the NFL among running backs who recorded more than 100 rushing carries.

Preseason schedule and team communication
The Raiders managed Jeanty's workload conservatively during August, holding him out of most exhibition action alongside other starting players. He appeared briefly during the preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals, carrying the ball three times for 16 yards before heading to the sideline. Jeanty did not play during the team's subsequent preseason game on Thursday at Houston. The Raiders are scheduled to conclude their three-game exhibition calendar on Thursday night when they host the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas. Following Sunday's practice, the organization did not issue an official statement on Jeanty's condition or provide a timeline for an update. Head coach Klint Kubiak is not scheduled to address the media until his regular Tuesday press conference.
Backup role and training camp emergence
Any extended absence for Jeanty would elevate rookie running back Mike Washington Jr. to the starting spot on the depth chart. The Raiders selected Washington in the fourth round of the 2026 draft out of Arkansas, and the rookie has stood out throughout training camp drills. Washington has taken practice repetitions with the first-team offense and has carried the primary workload during exhibition matchups. Through two preseason games, Washington has rushed 15 times for 119 yards. The Raiders now enter their final week of preseason preparations facing uncertainty at the running back position before roster cutdowns and the start of the regular season.
