US confirms strikes on 90 military targets in Iran while explosions hit near Bushehr nuclear site; Iran blames US and Israel
The US military confirmed strikes on about 90 Iranian military targets, while Iran reported an attack on a facility near its Bushehr nuclear plant and blamed the 'American-Zionist enemy,' though Washington denied involvement in that specific incident.
Latest strikes
The US Central Command confirmed it had completed another series of strikes against Iran, hitting roughly 90 military targets including air defence systems, coastal surveillance facilities, missile and drone storage sites, naval assets and logistics infrastructure along the Iranian coast. The announcement came as Iranian state media reported explosions near the southern city of Bushehr, home to the country's only operating nuclear power plant. Two blasts were heard in areas surrounding Bushehr and in the nearby town of Choghadak, according to the Mehr news agency, and residents also reported explosions in Bandar Abbas.
A military structure near Bushehr was attacked and hit by a projectile launched by the American-Zionist (Israeli) enemy.
A US defence official, however, told CNN that American forces had not conducted new attacks in Iran in recent hours, distancing Washington from the Bushehr incident.

Regional escalation
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed it had struck US military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar in retaliation. Ten missiles were also fired at Jordan, almost all of which were intercepted. The chief Iranian negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, issued a stark warning over the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway through which a large share of global oil shipments passes.
The United States has not yet understood that intimidation will not go unpunished. The Strait of Hormuz will reopen only on our terms.
Shipping through the strait has slowed to a trickle, according to reports.
Khamenei buried in Mashhad
Hundreds of thousands of people attended the burial of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in his hometown of Mashhad, in northern Iran. Khamenei was killed in Israeli-American attacks on 28 February 2026. The solemn ceremony at one of the world's largest mosques became a rallying point, with crowds chanting "death to Israel" and "death to Donald Trump."
Truce broken
The latest exchanges violate a truce reached roughly three weeks ago. Cross-border bombardments have resumed for a second consecutive night. Among the infrastructure hit was a strategic railway bridge in Golestan province that links Iran with Russia and China. A column of smoke was also seen rising near Iranshahr airport, and the southern port city of Chabahar was struck.
