Greece's 2025 tax filing closes with record 6.74 million on-time individual returns and 385,515 from legal entities
The filing period for 2025 income tax ended on 24 July 2026, with the Independent Authority for Public Revenue reporting record on-time compliance from both natural persons and legal entities. Pre-filled returns and a fixed opening schedule supported the smooth process.
Record compliance across the board
The tax filing season for the 2025 fiscal year concluded on Friday, 24 July 2026, with new highs for on-time submissions, according to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE). For the second consecutive year, the filing platforms opened on the statutory dates: 13 March for legal entities and 16 March for natural persons. The AADE stressed that sufficient time and early preparation by all involved led to a smooth completion without any extension.

Natural persons: over 8.9 million covered
A total of 6,737,763 on-time income tax returns were filed by natural persons, an increase of 31,672 compared to the previous year. Those returns covered 8,954,982 individuals, up from 8,914,700 in the 2024 filing season. The average daily submission rate reached 51,433 returns, slightly below last year's 52,803, which the AADE interpreted as a sign of an even smoother process. By the deadline, 603,106 amended returns had already been submitted by 563,765 taxpayers.

Legal entities: nearly 23,000 extra filings
On-time filings from legal entities rose to 385,515, up from 362,682 in 2025, an increase of almost 23,000 returns. The daily rate held at a satisfactory 2,877 submissions, consistent with the prior year given the higher volume.
Pre-clearance and automated filings
Pre-cleared returns played a central role. Of the 1,357,222 pre-filled declarations, 889,036 were submitted automatically without any taxpayer intervention. For 260,431 of them, filers needed to make an amendment, while the rest were either confirmed directly or left unchanged. The AADE framed the automated handling as a further step in simplification and digitisation of the tax process.
Presumption challenges fall sharply
Among the 358,054 natural persons taxed under the presumptive system (out of 742,344 sole proprietorships), only 1,645 expressed an intention to challenge the presumptions. That marks a 37% drop from the 2,603 challenges registered for the 2024 tax year.
This year's filing period closes with new records for on-time submissions, both for natural and legal persons. On behalf of all of us at AADE, we thank the citizens who fulfilled their obligations on time.
