Eight arrested in UK as NCA uncovers global network of drug-facilitated sexual assault
The National Crime Agency has arrested at least eight people in the UK and identified 270 individuals worldwide linked to online forums that encourage men to drug and rape women, often their long-term partners.
The investigation
British law enforcement began probing the online forum in October 2025 after German investigative journalists tipped off authorities about a platform used to coordinate drug-facilitated sexual assaults. The National Crime Agency (NCA) has since identified more than 270 individuals linked to the forum and its offshoots. Deputy director Nigel Leary called the findings a “truly international network with group members identified in dozens of countries spanning every continent”.
We believe we have uncovered a truly international network with group members identified in dozens of countries spanning every continent.
The agency has disseminated over 210 intelligence packages to domestic and overseas law enforcement partners, with more than 90% sent abroad. At least 14 separate investigations are now active in the UK and internationally. “The scale of what we have seen so far is deeply concerning,” Leary said, noting that such crimes are “no longer isolated behaviour, but increasingly organised.”
A global forum for abuse
Users of the encrypted forums discuss drugging victims to commit “the most heinous sexual abuse,” Leary said. They share advice on sedatives, tactics to avoid detection, and coordinate the filming of assaults. The forums create “a sense of community and legitimacy where deeply harmful behaviours are minimised or justified,” he explained.
The abuse we're discussing is some of the most horrifying I have seen in my career. Victims are being subject to horrendous sexual offending in their own homes in an ultimate breach of trust.
In a meeting in London late last month, law enforcement representatives from Brazil, Canada, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain and the United States shared intelligence. That session led to the identification of more than 150 offenders and victims, and uncovered four additional online communities.
The pattern of abuse
Crimes often occur within “committed, trusting and often long-term relationships,” the NCA said, noting parallels with the high-profile case of Gisèle Pelicot in France. Her ex-husband was jailed in 2025 for drugging and raping her over nearly a decade and inviting dozens of other men to participate. Since that trial, similar cases have emerged across Europe, from Germany to the Netherlands.
It is a grave and ever-evolving threat, rooted in domestic violence. The digital and connected nature of these abuses means the dimensions are changing.
Because victims are sedated, many may not remember the abuse, making it particularly hard to detect and report. The NCA has so far safeguarded at least eight victim-survivors.
