US refunds over €790 million to German companies after Supreme Court strikes down tariffs
German listed corporations including DHL and Siemens Healthineers have collected hundreds of millions of euros in duty repayments after the US Supreme Court invalidated Trump administration emergency tariffs.
Supreme Court ruling and German corporate refunds
Stock-listed companies in Germany have received over 790 million euros in tariff reimbursements following a ruling by the United States Supreme Court. The highest judicial body in the United States ruled in mid-February 2026 that tariffs levied under an emergency law were unlawful. The justices determined that President Donald Trump exceeded his statutory powers when imposing broad duties across dozens of global trading partners. While Trump subsequently enacted replacement tariffs under different statutes, the invalidation of the emergency measures forced US authorities to reimburse collected duties. Financial reports and corporate disclosures show that German firms have begun collecting these payments, with additional disbursements anticipated before the end of the year.
Logistics and medical suppliers receive hundreds of millions
Logistics group DHL secured the single largest repayment among German companies, collecting 416 million euros from US customs authorities. DHL Chief Financial Officer Melanie Kreis stated in early August that the Dax-listed corporation intends to pass all refunded capital directly through to affected freight customers. Kreis also confirmed that DHL anticipates further incoming refund tranches in future accounting periods. In the healthcare sector, Siemens Healthineers collected approximately 200 million euros in net duty refunds, a figure confirmed by Chief Financial Officer Jochen Schmitz at the end of July. Other specialized German medical and laboratory suppliers received reimbursements, including laboratory supplier Sartorius with 26 million euros and medical and safety equipment manufacturer Dräger with roughly 22 million euros.

Consumer brands and industrial manufacturers calculate returns
Sporting goods manufacturer Puma registered tariff refunds of approximately 49 million euros as customs reimbursements progressed. Its domestic competitor Adidas has projected that its total incoming repayments will reach between 250 million and 300 million dollars, which converts to approximately 214 million to 257 million euros. Commercial kitchen appliance manufacturer Rational, a global market leader in large kitchen appliances, received 14 million euros in returned duties. Financial disclosures across the German corporate sector indicate that the 790 million euro sum represents an interim total, as corporate accounting departments continue processing refund claims with US authorities for duties paid under the struck-down emergency tariff framework.
United States customs refund volume reaches tens of billions
The repayments to German corporations form part of a broader surge in duty reimbursements administered by the United States federal government. Between October 2025 and the end of June 2026, the US government refunded approximately 81.3 billion dollars to affected importers, amounting to roughly 65.53 billion euros at current exchange rates. During the identical comparative period one year earlier, US tariff refunds totaled nearly 5.3 billion dollars. This multi-billion dollar increase in outflows reflects the administrative processing of duties collected before the Supreme Court struck down the emergency measures in February 2026.
