Gauff and Muchova advance to Wimbledon semi-finals after quarterfinal victories
Coco Gauff rallied past Jessica Pegula and Karolina Muchova defeated Naomi Osaka on Tuesday to set up a semi-final meeting at Wimbledon 2026.
Gauff fights back to beat Pegula
Coco Gauff reached her first Wimbledon semi-final with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 comeback win over fourth seed Jessica Pegula on Centre Court. The seventh seed, who had not won a grass-court match in two years before this tournament, overcame four double faults and 17 unforced errors in the opening set to turn the match around. Gauff broke Pegula to love at 4-3 in the second set and again at 3-3 in the decider, sealing victory on her first match point after an hour and 48 minutes.
Honestly, it's pretty insane, considering I hadn't won a match on grass in two years before this tournament. Just really happy with the way I played.
Gauff, the 2023 US Open and 2025 French Open champion, became the youngest player to reach the semi-finals at all four Grand Slams since Maria Sharapova at the 2007 French Open. She has now won four consecutive three-set matches at this Wimbledon, including a fourth-round thriller against Belinda Bencic. Pegula, the highest-ranked player left in the draw, was broken to love twice in the final two sets and remains without a Grand Slam singles title.
Muchova outclasses Osaka
Karolina Muchova ended Naomi Osaka's run with a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory on Court One, reaching her first Wimbledon semi-final. The 29-year-old Czech, seeded tenth, produced 21 unforced errors to Osaka's 42 while both players hit 24 winners. Muchova serve-volleyed eight times in the first set, winning six of those points, and frequently used slices and blocked returns to neutralise Osaka's power.
Muchová's ability to hit slices and blocked returns off either wing kept returning Osaka to neutral in rallies, in a way that Sabalenka had been singularly unable to do.
Osaka, the 14th seed, had stunned top seed Aryna Sabalenka in the fourth round but could not sustain that level. Her first-serve points won dropped from 87 percent against Sabalenka to 67 percent against Muchova. Despite the loss, Osaka's run marked her best Wimbledon showing and included a statement win over the world number one.

Semifinal set
Gauff and Muchova will meet in the last four, with both players appearing in their first Wimbledon semi-final. Gauff, 22, has found form on grass after years of early exits, while Muchova's all-court game has long been considered ideally suited to the surface. The winner will advance to Saturday's final.
