Feijóo launches PP campaign for November election and warns against euphoria
Popular Party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo convened his national executive in Madrid on Thursday, warning against triumphalism ahead of Spain's November 29 general election and appointing Miguel Tellado to run the campaign.
Mobilisation and warning against complacency
Alberto Núñez Feijóo opened the Partido Popular's push toward Spain's November 29 general election by instructing party officials to banish triumphalism. Addressing the National Board of Directors at party headquarters on Calle Génova in Madrid on Thursday, Feijóo rejected early celebrations based on poll standings or street sentiment. He told assembled regional leaders that victories are secured only on ballot day rather than during the campaign buildup. The party leader framed the coming vote as an explicit choice between decency and delinquency for Spanish voters. He urged regional cadres to canvass across the country and pursue votes individually without taking any electorate for granted.
Here nothing is celebrated until the last polling station closes.
Campaign leadership and organisational structure
To lead the electoral push, Feijóo named PP Secretary General Miguel Tellado as national campaign director. The 52-year-old politician from Ferrol previously coordinated Feijóo's last two regional election campaigns in Galicia before moving into national roles in Madrid. Feijóo noted that this leadership structure delivered five victories across five campaigns and called on the team to improve upon those marks. Marta Varela, head of Feijóo's cabinet, will serve as deputy campaign director throughout the operation. Parliamentary spokesperson Ester Muñoz assumes the role of campaign spokesperson, while Alma Ezcurra takes charge of drafting the electoral programme. The national campaign committee also incorporates regional figures, including Castilla-La Mancha general secretary Carolina Agudo and national lawmaker Pilar Alía for candidate training.

Housing dispute following evictions
Housing policy emerged as an immediate focal point of Feijóo's address to the party leadership. He attacked Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's record on residential access, pointing to 97 daily evictions during the socialist administration's eight years in office. Feijóo argued that younger generations remain unable to leave their family homes while working professionals in their thirties must share flats. The speech addressed the death on October 7 of Maricarmen Abascal, an 87-year-old woman whose eviction two weeks earlier precipitated the collapse of two government decree laws and prompted the election call. Feijóo accused the government of seeking emotional manipulation over the death to salvage its political standing. Madrid Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida separately stated that the capital city council would not hold a minute of silence, arguing that left-wing parties were instrumentalising the woman's death.
We will not follow their game or fall into their traps.
Audiencia Nacional testimony and political pressure
Feijóo and regional leaders also directed attention to judicial proceedings unfolding at the Audiencia Nacional on Thursday morning. Judge Beatriz Biedma, who is investigating corruption allegations involving the prime minister's brother, testified as a witness and victim regarding alleged harassment. Her appearance followed findings from the Guardia Civil's Central Operative Unit concerning contacts between socialist operatives and the Los Rochos gang from Badajoz. Biedma told the court that individuals linked to these networks approached her daughters' school. Castilla y León President Alfonso Fernández Mañueco referenced the police report upon arriving at the party headquarters, stating that citizens now have the opportunity to close a damaging chapter in democratic governance. Feijóo demanded full accountability from the government regarding the reported pressure against the magistrate.
