Transfer to Famalicao
Futebol Clube de Famalicao announced on Friday the signing of Greek forward Georgios Koutsias. The 22-year-old attacker agreed to a five-year contract valid until June 2031, joining from Swiss side Lugano. Portuguese press reports indicate the Primeira Liga club paid around 2 million euros to secure the player. Lugano had previously exercised a purchase option on Koutsias after a loan spell from Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire.
Early career and international experience
Koutsias began his professional path at PAOK, making his first-team debut at the age of 16 and becoming the second youngest player to represent the Thessaloniki club. He was part of the PAOK squad that won the Greek Cup in the 2020/21 season, playing alongside Vieirinha. After a loan at fellow Greek top-flight side Volos, he moved to Chicago Fire in 2023, where he made over 50 appearances across two MLS seasons. A loan to Lugano followed, and the Swiss club eventually made the deal permanent after Koutsias featured in the Swiss Super League and appeared in both the Europa League and Europa Conference League.

Player's excitement
Koutsias called Famalicao the ideal step. “I am very excited to have signed for Futebol Clube de Famalicao. It is a top club in one of the main European football leagues,” he said in a statement released by the club.
It was the ideal option for my career, because it is a top club in one of the main European football leagues.
He revealed he had followed several of the team’s matches during the 2025/26 season, when Famalicao finished fifth in the Primeira Liga, and declared he was ready to “give everything for the club.”
What he brings
Last season at Lugano, Koutsias scored six goals in 36 appearances across all competitions. The forward provides an extra option for an attack that helped Famalicao secure a top-five finish and will now target European qualification.
