Alexis Tsipras's ELAS party establishes nationwide organizational network and regional coordinators

Political Committee approval and leadership roles

The Political Committee of the Hellenic Left Coalition (ELAS), led by former Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras, approved the party's new organizational framework on 30 August 2026 to build a permanent presence across Greece. The executive body appointed Kostas Boulmetis as director of the secretary's office. An eight-member Organizational Coordination Committee was confirmed to steer operations, including Sotiris Alexiou, Stelios Apostolou, Tzeni Diamantopoulou, Kostas Boulmetis, Eleni Stavrakaki, Dimitris Chalazonitis, Angelina Chatzopoulou, and Thanos Chronas. Specialized portfolios were also assigned, with Chatzopoulou taking charge of the secretariat of party bodies and Apostolou overseeing events, mobilizations, and membership. Thanos Chronas was named organizational head of elections alongside deputy Thanos Tasikas, while Dimitris Paterelis was appointed head of the youth sector. Tsipras outlined the party's goals to the committee during the session.

The goal is for the Coalition to maintain open channels with society so that the program and political positions of ELAS reach everywhere.

Digital party platform and central strategy

Beyond physical party offices, the leadership established a specialized digital operations branch to connect the central organization with local communities. Petros Kokkalis was named coordinator of the digital party, while Dimitris Chalazonitis was appointed manager of the digital platform. Party leaders stated that appointed coordinators will not serve as ceremonial figures. Instead, they carry direct responsibility for assembling, expanding, and directing local and regional branches. The new apparatus is designed to maintain regular communication between central leadership and local citizens across the country.

Attica organizational division

In Attica, the party divided organizational responsibilities into seven distinct geographic and electoral sectors. Nikos Sarantis was appointed coordinator for the West Athens B2 sector, while Kleoniki Apostolidou took charge of the North Athens B1 sector. Eastern Attica was assigned to Stavros Karagounis, and Western Attica was allocated to Nikos Peppas. Tzeni Diamantopoulou took responsibility for the central Athens A district, Stelios Sykas was selected for the South Athens B3 sector, and Domna Kailidou was named coordinator for the combined Piraeus A and B sectors. This structure distributes organizational workload across the metropolitan basin based on local socio-political traits.

Regional coordinators across Greece

Across the country's wider regional network, the party appointed coordinators for key administrative zones to establish decentralized party structures. In northern and central regions, Christos Bgyialas was assigned to Western Macedonia, Thomas Bournaris to Central Macedonia, Efi Papalexiou to Thessaloniki A and B, Sotiris Alexiou to Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, and Giannis Koutsioras to Thessaly. For western and southern areas, Vasilis Tzoufis took charge of Epirus, Dimitris Vettas was appointed to Central Greece, Vasilis Aivalis to Western Greece, and Konstantinos Tsefalas to the Peloponnese. Island territories were allocated to Thanos Chronas for the Northern Aegean, Angelina Chatzopoulou for the Southern Aegean covering the Cyclades and Dodecanese, and Manolis Petrakakis for Crete. These regional coordinators are tasked with establishing local committees immediately.
