During a global event in Barcelona, preceding the Mobile World Congress trade fair, Xiaomi officially launched the 17 series. The centerpiece of the presentation was the Xiaomi 17 Ultra model, which aspires to be the world's best photographic smartphone. The device is equipped with optics co-developed with Leica, designed to deliver the image depth and plasticity known from professional cameras. This collaboration also resulted in the global debut of a new version of the Leitz Phone, a device directly branded by the German company but based on its Chinese partner's technology. The manufacturer placed enormous emphasis on energy efficiency and charging technology. The 17 series models use higher-density battery cells, translating to longer battery life without sacrificing a slim profile. Alongside the smartphones, the Xiaomi Pad 8 and Pad 8 Pro tablets debuted, offered in promotional bundles in the Polish market. The 'starter' offer allows customers to purchase additional devices, such as Scooter 6 Ultra series electric scooters or accessories, for a symbolic one zloty when buying the main flagship. This is an aggressive market strategy aimed at quickly capturing share in the premium segment. The product portfolio was rounded out by smaller gadgets: the Xiaomi Tag tracker, a direct response to Apple's AirTag, and a new generation of smartwatch with WearOS. The latter boasts a claimed battery life of up to 6 days, a significant advantage over main competitors. Furthermore, Xiaomi showcased an electric hypercar designed for games like Gran Turismo, highlighting the brand's technological ambitions beyond the mobile market. Since 2022, Xiaomi and Leica have maintained a strategic partnership in imaging engineering, which replaced the German company's earlier collaboration with Huawei. In Polish stores, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is priced at the level of competitors' flagships, placing it in direct competition with the iPhone 17 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. Experts note that the series' success will depend not only on technical specifications but also on the stability of the new HyperOS system. This launch signals that Chinese manufacturers are moving beyond competing solely on price, focusing instead on unique solutions in optics and artificial intelligence.
