This year's edition of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona has concluded, confirming the event's transformation from a phone trade show into a global forum for new technologies. The dominant theme was the integration of artificial intelligence in everyday devices, satellite communication systems, and cybersecurity solutions. Record-breaking interest was generated by the premieres of augmented reality glasses and the modern Samsung Galaxy Book6 laptops, which focus on deep process automation.
The Era of AI Agents
Artificial intelligence is transitioning from the chatbot phase to autonomous agents capable of managing user devices and tasks.
Breakthrough in XR Glasses
Premieres from Samsung and Google show that augmented reality is becoming a mature product category integrated with the Android system.
Europe's Technical Sovereignty
Projects like IndraMind and Celeste aim to provide the continent with independence in digital infrastructure and satellite navigation.
The jubilee, twentieth edition of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona became a manifesto of Europe's technological sovereignty and proof that the mobile sector is now inextricably linked with advanced artificial intelligence. While traditional smartphones still attracted attention, wearable solutions like the Samsung Galaxy XR glasses or Google with the Android XR system became the main highlights. Industry experts and journalists emphasized that XR technology is ceasing to be just a concept and is beginning to seek real application in daily communication, offering, among other things, natural interactions with the Gemini assistant. An important aspect of this year's congress was the debate on digital autonomy. The presentation of the IndraMind project, considered Europe's "digital brain," and the Celeste initiative aimed at improving GPS precision, are steps towards independence from external infrastructure providers. Simultaneously, the CEO of Qualcomm announced that 2026 will be a breakthrough year for so-called AI agents, systems capable of independently performing complex tasks on behalf of the user. This was accompanied by presentations from companies like Telefónica, which, together with Mavenir, is opening innovation centers to transform telecommunications network cores. The Mobile World Congress has been held in Barcelona since 2006, becoming the most important point in the global mobile technology industry calendar. Over two decades, the event has generated over 7 billion euros for the local economy and contributed to the creation of 170,000 jobs. Parallel to the main trade show, the Talent Arena section was a huge success, visited by 25,000 people—a quarter more than last year. This event focused on promoting digital skills and gender equality in the technology business. Other premieres, including the EBO Air 2S home robot and new devices from Tecno and TCL, completed the picture of the trade show as a space where technology serves not only entertainment but, above all, safety and work efficiency. Despite the optimism, some commentators point out that the race for dominance in the satellite sector between the USA and Europe, intensified by SpaceX's actions, remains one of the greatest challenges of the coming years. „I predict 2026 will be the year of the AI agent.” — Cristiano Amon
Perspektywy mediów: Liberal and pro-European media strongly emphasize EU technological sovereignty initiatives and projects like IndraMind. Business and technology services primarily focus on the expansion of American giants and the dominance of Qualcomm or SpaceX.
