Drunk driver in St. Ingbert hits resident with car after trying to bypass blocked bus
A driver in St. Ingbert assaulted a resident and struck him with his car after driving onto a sidewalk to pass a broken-down bus on Saturday evening. Police arrested the intoxicated suspect on foot and confiscated his license.
Blocked roadway in St. Ingbert
On Saturday evening, a technical defect on a bus caused a temporary blockage of a roadway in St. Ingbert. The stalled bus remained stationary across the street, preventing other vehicles from proceeding normally through the area. The bus breakdown led to a temporary halt in local traffic during the evening hours. An approaching driver encountered the obstruction and honked his car horn continuously for several minutes in frustration. Rather than waiting for the blockage to clear or for technical assistance to arrive, the motorist attempted to bypass the stationary bus. The driver redirected his vehicle away from the paved lane to navigate past the immobilized vehicle.
Sidewalk bypass and physical dispute
The motorist drove his car onto the pedestrian sidewalk and across an adjacent municipal green area to pass the broken-down bus. The driver steered over the walkway and through the green strip despite the lack of a road lane. A local resident witnessed the bypass maneuver and stepped in to prevent the vehicle from traveling across the pedestrian zone. The resident sought to halt the unauthorized driving on the sidewalk before the confrontation turned physical. The dispute escalated into violence when the driver attacked the resident on the street. Following the physical assault, the motorist returned to his automobile and attempted to drive away from the location.
Vehicle collision and pedestrian injury
To prevent the driver from fleeing the scene of the assault, the resident positioned himself directly in front of the automobile. The motorist continued moving forward, driving directly into the resident's path. The vehicle struck the resident with its front section, lifting him onto the hood of the car before coming to a brief halt. The resident sustained minor physical injuries as a result of the collision.
When the victim stood in the path of the vehicle, he was lightly struck by the car and carried onto the hood.
Foot pursuit and street apprehension
Following the collision, the driver abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled on foot. The motorist attempted to escape through the surrounding neighborhood to avoid responding emergency services. Police officers dispatched to the area initiated a search for the fleeing driver. Patrol units cordoned off nearby streets to locate the suspect without delay. Officers located the driver a few hundred meters away from the abandoned vehicle. The police detained the individual on the street and placed him under provisional arrest.

Station resistance and blood alcohol testing
Officers transported the detained suspect to the police station for official intake and processing. Because the motorist showed clear signs of alcohol intoxication, authorities ordered an official blood sample for laboratory analysis. The blood draw was mandated to establish the driver's exact blood alcohol content. Law enforcement officers also confiscated the suspect's driver's license on the spot. The individual was formally placed into police custody at the station.
