Drunk truck driver crashes into six parked cars in Egaleo, breathalyser reads 1.24 mg/l
A 48-year-old truck driver was arrested in Egaleo early Wednesday after losing control and slamming into six parked vehicles. A breathalyser test recorded 1.24 mg/l, nearly five times the legal limit.
The incident
A serious traffic accident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, 10 June 2026, in the western Athens suburb of Egaleo. Shortly after 1:00 a.m., a 48-year-old truck driver travelling along Bouboulinas Street lost control of his vehicle and collided successively with six parked cars. The impact caused extensive material damage to the stationary vehicles, though no injuries were reported.
Alcohol test results
Police officers who arrived at the scene administered a breathalyser test to the driver. The device recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 1.24 mg/l, a level nearly five times the legal limit of 0.25 mg/l prescribed by the Greek Highway Code. The driver, described by one outlet as being of Albanian origin, was found to be heavily intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Arrest and charges
The 48-year-old was arrested at the scene and taken into custody. He faces charges of dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. The arrest was carried out by police officers who responded to the incident on Bouboulinas Street, where the six damaged cars remained at the roadside.
Damage and aftermath
All six parked vehicles sustained significant material damage from the force of the collision. The truck driver's own vehicle was also damaged in the sequence of impacts. No other people were involved, and the absence of injuries was noted as a fortunate outcome given the severity of the crash. The incident adds to ongoing concerns about drink-driving enforcement in the greater Athens area.
