At 20:03, a 30-year-old driver operating a Mercedes passenger car attempted an overtaking maneuver around an agricultural machine. The vehicle ahead was a John Deere farm tractor pulling an attached cultivator. While passing, the Mercedes struck the left rear section of the cultivator. Following the contact, the driver lost control of the Mercedes, drifted across the right shoulder, and slid into a roadside ditch. The initial impact caused no physical injuries to the occupants of either vehicle.
Fatal secondary impact on the roadway
After coming to a stop in the ditch, the 30-year-old Mercedes driver, identified as a resident of neighboring Słupca County, exited his damaged vehicle. He stepped back onto the active carriageway and walked toward the tractor to speak with its operator, approaching the left side of the agricultural vehicle where the driver remained seated. While standing on the roadway lane, he was struck by an oncoming Volkswagen Polo driven by a 62-year-old man. Aspirant Adam Wojciński, press officer for the Powiat Police Headquarters in Września, described the fatal sequence established by officers.
Then the driver of the Volkswagen Polo struck the 30-year-old standing on the roadway, who died at the scene.
The physical impact proved immediately fatal for the 30-year-old pedestrian. Emergency medical technicians arrived at the location, but resuscitation efforts could not be initiated due to the severity of the trauma.
