Olympiacos drops Tyler Dorsey from Barcelona trip after social media criticism

Public complaint on social media

Tyler Dorsey, the Olympiacos guard, publicly criticized his reduced playing time on 14 October in a social media comment under a post by the Triple Threat Show, a programme on the Amerikanos24 channel. The post carried a debate in which Jaron Blossomgame said the club could replace Dorsey with another player, while Chima Moneke argued that Olympiacos should reward the role he played in winning the EuroLeague last season. Dorsey answered sharply, asking why the club was not letting him leave, especially if it did not intend to pay him. He also wrote that his minutes had dropped suddenly and without warning, and that he did not want to reveal everything yet.

If what I do can be done by someone else, why don't they let me leave now, especially if they don't want to pay me?

Dorsey added that the truth about how he had been treated at the club would come out, and that things were not always what they looked like from outside.

Club response and the Barcelona trip

Olympiacos answered the same day with a short statement from the club company that runs its basketball team. The statement said Dorsey was out of the squad for the match against Barcelona and would return to Athens immediately. The Euroleague sixth-round game takes place on Friday, 16 October, at 21:30 in Barcelona, and the team was already in Spain after its win in Valencia.

Tyler Dorsey has been placed out of the squad for the match against Barcelona and will return to Athens immediately.

Club sources cited by in.gr said the decision was taken for disciplinary reasons and that Dorsey would head back to Greece at once. The club had not publicly commented on his remarks at the time of reporting.

Minutes, statistics and the Valencia win

Dorsey was left out of the 12-man roster for the league game against Kolossos on Sunday, 11 October. On 13 October, Olympiacos came back from 28 points down to beat Valencia, and Dorsey played five minutes without appearing in the second half or extra time. Last season in the EuroLeague he averaged 15.9 points, 2.6 assists and 2.3 rebounds in 25 minutes and 10 seconds per game. This season, after the arrival of two new players, his playing time has fallen to 18 minutes and 26 seconds, with averages of 12.6 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

Contract and what comes next

Dorsey's contract runs until the summer of 2027, according to To Vima, and no agreement on an extension has been reached, in.gr reported. Reports cited in the coverage say PAOK has shown interest in signing him. The next scheduled fixture is the Barcelona game on Friday, 16 October, which he will miss under the club's decision. The dispute has not been resolved, and the club had not commented on his remarks at the time of reporting.
