Jesse Derry lands in Lisbon to complete Sporting loan after Chelsea extension
English winger Jesse Derry, 19, touched down at Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport on Thursday to finalize his season-long loan to Sporting CP, days after extending his Chelsea contract until 2032.
Derry, a 19-year-old left winger, arrived early afternoon after Chelsea announced his new six-year deal. The loan includes no purchase option, a sign of the London club’s belief in his potential. He will undergo medical exams before signing.
I'm very happy to be here. I'm very tired, but we'll talk tomorrow.
He joins a Sporting side that will also be able to use him on the right flank, with the Englishman having scored 12 goals and provided four assists in 33 appearances across Chelsea’s youth and senior teams last season. His senior debut came at 18 in the Premier League against Nottingham Forest.
