Polish military evacuates injured citizen Piotr Moczulski from the Philippines after two years
A government Gulfstream G550 landed in Warsaw on Wednesday carrying Piotr Moczulski, who spent more than two years in a hospital in the Philippines following a scooter collision.
Evacuation flight arrives in Warsaw
On Wednesday afternoon, 30 September 2026, a Polish government Gulfstream G550 touched down at Warsaw airport carrying Piotr Moczulski. The aircraft arrived shortly after 16:00 following an evacuation mission organized by the Ministry of National Defence. The outbound flight to the Philippines required approximately 15 hours with a scheduled refueling stop, while the return leg took slightly longer due to adverse wind conditions. The mission required overflight permissions from 13 separate countries, which were coordinated in advance by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Moczulski remained under the direct observation of two military medics throughout the flight.
It is worth praising the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which did enormous work regarding flights over 13 countries. That required many diplomatic approvals.
Transfer to Bialystok clinical hospital
Immediately after landing, an ambulance sent by the University Clinical Hospital in Bialystok met the aircraft on the tarmac. Medical staff transported Moczulski directly toward the hospital emergency ward and Multi-Organ Trauma Centre for comprehensive diagnostic testing. His brother, Tomasz Moczulski, accompanied him during the entire flight after receiving departure notice late on Sunday evening. Security regulations prevented any advance disclosure or photography during the flight. Tomasz noted that Piotr stayed conscious with open eyes throughout the transfer, and expressed relief after months of uncertainty.
At this moment Piotr feels well, he has already been taken for examinations. Maybe in the end specialists will determine exactly what condition he is in now.
Two-year hospitalisation after scooter accident
Moczulski became stranded in the Philippines following a severe road collision during a scooter ride with an acquaintance over two years ago. The impact caused severe cerebral edema, placing him in a coma and requiring continuous clinical monitoring in a local hospital. His fragile medical state made regular commercial flights impossible, leaving evacuation by dedicated military air transport as the only viable option. In April 2024, his family initiated a public online fundraiser to finance hospital costs in the Philippines, international medical transit, and subsequent rehabilitation. His mother and brother visited him abroad during the summer of 2026 while actively petitioning defence authorities for an evacuation flight.

Military medical transport protocols
The evacuation used one of only two Gulfstream G550 aircraft operated by the Polish state, which are primarily assigned to transport senior government leaders. Technical preparation of the aircraft and medical personnel was managed jointly by the 1st Airlift Base in Warsaw and the 8th Airlift Base in Krakow. Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed the patient's return on social media platform X, emphasizing that military evacuation assets deploy when citizens face critical conditions without alternative transport. The defence ministry indicated that Polish armed forces routinely carry out medical airlift missions, including organ transport for transplants. This was the second international repatriation flight of 2026, following the evacuation of Klaudia Uciechowska from China to Wroclaw in June.
The Polish Army is there to defend, but also to take care of every one of our citizens.
