The official alert focuses on Tuesday between 08:00 and 14:00, when torrential downpours are expected to peak. The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat) issued danger warnings ranging between level 4 and level 5 on its 6-point scale, with localized spikes reaching the maximum level 6. Forecast models indicate that static convective storm cells could discharge more than 40 litres per square metre within 30 minutes, and potentially exceed that volume within 20 minutes in the most severe bursts. Meteorological models show the storm system developing in the south around Terres de l'Ebre and Tarragona before travelling northeast toward Empordà and Girona comarcas. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) warned of an adverse weather pattern bringing violent squalls, heavy hail, strong wind gusts, and possible waterspouts or localized tornadoes along the Mediterranean coast. Rather than a continuous, widespread rain blanket across Catalonia, forecasters expect slow-moving, regenerating storm clusters that dump heavy water volumes over narrow geographical areas. Citizens have been instructed to use the 112 emergency phone line exclusively for critical incidents. The broader convective storm episode is projected to continue affecting southern, central, and northeastern Catalonia until the early hours of Wednesday, 30 September 2026.
