Police arrest 38-year-old for sexually harassing two 16-year-old girls on a city bus in Thessaloniki
A 38-year-old man was taken into custody after allegedly touching a 16-year-old girl and groping her friend on a public bus in central Thessaloniki on Wednesday.
The incident
A 38-year-old man boarded a city bus in Thessaloniki and, according to a complaint filed with the police, sexually harassed two 16-year-old girls. The alleged acts occurred while the bus was moving through the central Vardaris district, at the intersection of Egnatia and Lagkada streets. One girl reported being fondled, and the other said she was inappropriately touched by the man.
Police response
Officers from the Prevention and Suppression of Crime Unit responded immediately after the incident was reported. They located the bus and arrested the 38-year-old at the scene on Wednesday (10 June) around midday. The swift intervention meant the man was handcuffed on the bus, witnesses said.
Legal proceedings
Following the arrest, a case file was opened against the 38-year-old for "offending sexual dignity" (prosvoli genitisias axioprepeias), the standard charge for non-consensual sexual touching under Greek law. He was taken to the competent public prosecutor on 11 June for further processing. No further details about the suspect or the victims have been released by the authorities.
