Bucharest's Sector 4 unveils concept for 'Donald Trump' park, featuring NASA and Hollywood themes, with construction starting in September
The mayor of Bucharest's Sector 4, Daniel Băluță, has presented the design for the Romanian-American Friendship Park 'Donald Trump', a 4.2-hectare themed space that will include NASA, Hollywood, and other American cultural symbols. US Special Representative Paolo Zampolli praised the project as a 'promise fulfilled' and said construction will begin in late August or early September.
Concept unveiled on Independence Day
On 4 July 2026, the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence, Bucharest Sector 4 mayor Daniel Băluță presented the design for the Romanian-American Friendship Park "Donald Trump". The park will extend the existing Tudor Arghezi Park by 4.2 hectares (42,000 square meters) and will feature themed areas inspired by American culture, including NASA space exploration, Hollywood cinema, Las Vegas, and monster trucks.
The architects imagined a place where education, recreation and technology blend naturally, and where children can play, enjoy time with their families, and at the same time discover landmarks that marked the history and culture of the United States, such as space exploration and the NASA universe, cinema and other emblematic symbols of America.
Diplomatic praise and a "promise fulfilled"
US Special Representative for Global Partnerships Paolo Zampolli, a close associate of President Donald Trump, praised the project on social media. He revealed that he had spoken by phone with Băluță, who confirmed that renderings were ready and construction would begin at the end of August or the beginning of September.
Once again, a promise fulfilled. In just 20 minutes, we got the commitment for a 42,000 square meter park dedicated to the US anniversary.
Zampolli also thanked US Ambassador to Romania Darryl Nirenberg for his support, and emphasized the symbolism of the two nations' flags standing together.
Naming controversy and local vote
The decision to name the park after Donald Trump followed an online vote in which over 116,000 people participated, according to Băluță. However, the choice sparked controversy, with some residents arguing that the entire area should have retained the name of the poet Tudor Arghezi, after whom the original park is named. The extension works on Tudor Arghezi Park had already begun in autumn 2025, and the naming was announced on 25 May 2026.
A symbol of bilateral ties
Mayor Băluță framed the park as a symbol of the strategic partnership between Romania and the United States, and expressed hope that it would become a landmark for the capital.
I hope that soon this park will become not only a meeting and joy place for children and families, but also a symbol of mutual respect, friendship and the values that Romania and the United States share.
