Francotte and his team had been dispatched to an office building occupied by the Single Resolution Board, a European Union institution located on Rue du Treurenberg near Brussels-Central railway station. Emergency responders were managing a gas leak on site when two separate explosions tore through the building. The blast killed the sergeant-major and left three other individuals with severe injuries.
