
Two boats run aground off Aegina and Antiparos, no injuries reported
A yacht and a catamaran ran aground in separate incidents near the Greek islands of Aegina and Antiparos on Saturday, with all 20 people aboard rescued or awaiting rescue without injuries.
Two vessels ran aground in Greek waters on Saturday, July 4, prompting responses from the Hellenic Coast Guard and private boats. No injuries were reported in either incident.
Yacht grounding off Aegina
A yacht carrying 14 people (11 foreign passengers and 3 crew members) ran aground in the sea area northeast of Aegina. The passengers and crew boarded a lifeboat and, with the assistance of a private vessel, were safely transported to shore. One Coast Guard vessel and two private boats rushed to the scene. Winds in the area were blowing from the northeast at 3 to 4 Beaufort.
Catamaran grounding near Antiparos
A sailing catamaran with six foreign passengers ran aground near the islet of Despotiko, southwest of Antiparos. One Coast Guard vessel and two private boats were mobilized to provide assistance. North winds of 4 Beaufort were blowing in the area at the time.
Response and conditions
Both incidents occurred under moderate wind conditions, with no reports of pollution or hull breaches. The Coast Guard coordinated the rescues, and all individuals were accounted for without medical issues.
