Bayern Munich beats Borussia Dortmund 2-1 to secure 12th German Supercup title
Bayern Munich claimed the 2026 German Supercup at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday, holding off a late Borussia Dortmund rally after first-half goals from Nathaniel Brown and Michael Olise.
First-half goals secure early Bayern control
Bayern Munich began the 2026/27 domestic campaign by winning the German Supercup with a 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park. The Bundesliga holders opened the scoring in the 28th minute when summer signing Nathaniel Brown, arriving from Eintracht Frankfurt, scored with a low angled drive. Dortmund pushed for an equalizer and had a 43rd-minute goal from Ramy Bensebaini disallowed for offside after a free kick. Bayern doubled their advantage in first-half stoppage time as Michael Olise intercepted a loose pass from Felix Nmecha and ran clear to finish past the goalkeeper.
Dortmund adjustments and late Silva reply
Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovac adjusted his setup after the interval, bringing on Greek playmaker Giannis Konstantelias. Portuguese forward Fábio Silva joined the attack in the 63rd minute to increase pressure on the Bayern defence. The changes paid off in the 75th minute when Konstantelias found Svensson on the left side of the penalty area, allowing the wing-back to cross for Silva's close-range finish. Dortmund continued to create scoring chances during the closing minutes as Bayern dropped deeper into their own half.

Late dismissal and missed opportunities
Dortmund maintained offensive pressure despite a setback in the 90th minute, when Bensebaini was sent off for a heavy challenge. Even with ten men, the home side created late opportunities to force extra time. Silva directed a header narrowly wide, and in the 93rd minute, striker Maximilian Beier broke through on goal before lifting his shot over Manuel Neuer's crossbar.
Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovac reflected on the competitive gap between the two sides before kickoff.
As a former player and as a coach, it is easy to say the words, but the hardest part is putting what is said into practice. Look at this century. We are in 2026 and Bayern Munich has already won the title 18 times. For that reason, you can always count on Bayern Munich as favourites. We are here to fight for the title. Last season we finished 16 points behind them, a reduction from 25 points the previous season, but 16 points is still a huge difference. To close that gap, many things have to happen. We have to play above our capabilities and Bayern also has to play below its level. It is not just about us playing at the highest level. Of course we are here to win, but we also have to remember that the other teams are pressing hard behind us. It is not easy just because we are Dortmund.
Squad updates and competition records
The 27th German Supercup showcased revised lineups for both German rivals. Dortmund handed appearances to new signings Konstantinos Karetsas, Joey Veerman, and Konstantelias, while Bayern fielded Brown, Ismael Saibari, and Bara Sapoko Ndiaye. Midfielder João Palhinha was omitted from Bayern's match sheet after arriving in Lisbon ahead of a proposed transfer to Benfica. The victory earned Bayern their 12th Supercup trophy across 19 appearances, while Dortmund remains on six titles from 13 appearances. Bayern starts their Bundesliga campaign against Stuttgart on Friday, 28 August at 19:30.
