Claudio Baglioni returns to the stage with two Rome concerts after pneumonia forced tour postponement

Health scare and postponed tour

In June 2026, Claudio Baglioni, 75, was diagnosed with acute interstitial pneumonia, one of the most insidious forms of the illness. The condition forced him to cancel the summer launch of his GrandTour "La vita è adesso," which was to begin on June 29 in Venice. He spent three months recovering, during which he feared his performing days were over. The tour was designed to mark the 40th anniversary of "La vita è adesso," the 1985 album that remains the best-selling record in Italian music history with over four million copies sold. All scheduled dates were postponed to 2027.

During this period of forced rest due to my health problems, I feared I would never return to a stage. Instead, today I can say with joy and enthusiasm that the journey continues and will have an exceptional preview and postscript.

The album that defined a career

"La vita è adesso," released in 1985, still holds unbeaten records in Italian discography. The GrandTour was conceived as a 40th-anniversary celebration, featuring a large ensemble of over 20 musicians and a crew of top-tier professionals. Baglioni had planned to open the tour on June 29, 2026 in Venice, but the pneumonia diagnosis forced a complete rescheduling to 2027. The two Rome concerts now serve as bookends: a preview of the tour in 2026 and its grand finale in 2027.

Two special Rome concerts

Baglioni announced the comeback via a video on his social media channels. The first event, "Che notte è questa!", is set for October 24, 2026 at Piazza di Siena inside Villa Borghese. Tickets go on sale on July 22. The second, exactly one year later on October 23, 2027, will be held at Via dei Fori Imperiali, with the Colosseum as the backdrop. Baglioni described the two shows as "a start and a finish," with the 2027 concert intended as his final live performance before retirement.

Venues and career milestones

Both locations are woven into Baglioni's six-decade career. His 1982 "Alé-Oó" concert at Piazza di Siena attracted 180,000 spectators, many climbing trees for a view, and became a landmark of Italian live music. He returned to the same venue in 2009. The Fori Imperiali hosted him in 1996 for a free concert as a FAO ambassador for World Food Day, and again in 2010. Baglioni recalled these as "two incredible experiences with over a million people including the repeats in 2009 and 2010."

This detour forced me to postpone the tour to 2027, but in these weeks I also retraced my long career, 60 years of music, words and concerts, and some moments stand out more than others.

The GrandTour and farewell

The rescheduled GrandTour "La vita è adesso" will now launch on June 28, 2027 from Piazza San Marco in Venice, with 50 concerts in total. It will culminate in the October 2027 Rome show. The production involves over 20 musicians and dozens of professionals, all of whom Baglioni said needed to reunite after the unexpected hiatus. The tour is both a celebration of the record-breaking album and a personal rebirth after a health crisis that threatened to end his stage career.
