Protest against Marco Rubio visit closes central Athens roads before traffic reopens
Traffic in central Athens resumed shortly before 21:00 on Tuesday following police closures during a demonstration against a visit by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Demonstrators gathered at the Propylaea in central Athens on Tuesday afternoon to protest the official visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Greece. The gathering drew members of student associations, trade unions, labor federations, and extra-parliamentary left-wing parties.
Police closed main roads across the capital for several hours as traffic restrictions took effect. Demonstrators attempted to march toward the United States embassy, but police units blocked the route. The demonstration concluded peacefully, and authorities restored normal traffic flow shortly before 21:00.
