U.S. Army Unit Offers Soldiers Four Days of Leave to Play GTA 6 for Two-Year Reenlistment
A U.S. Army battalion at Fort Stewart is offering a four-day pass to play Grand Theft Auto VI for soldiers who extend their service contracts by at least two years.
Retention incentive at Fort Stewart
An army unit stationed at Fort Stewart in Georgia is offering active-duty personnel four consecutive days of leave to play Grand Theft Auto VI in exchange for extending their service commitments. The reenlistment program, organized by the 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion within the 3rd Infantry Division, grants the four-day pass to coincide with the commercial launch of the video game in November. Unit leadership confirmed that 20 of the battalion's 130 eligible soldiers have already signed new service agreements under the incentive program.
The incentive plan was designed by a newly appointed battalion career counselor seeking practical ways to reach reenlistment goals for fiscal year 2027. Command leadership approved the localized offer to present tangible benefits aligned with the personal interests of younger service members, encouraging troops to hold earlier career discussions with supervisors.
The idea was to have a unique incentives program that connects to what soldiers are interested in.
Eligibility criteria and contract requirements
To qualify for the four-day pass, eligible soldiers must sign a reenlistment contract extending their military service by a minimum of two years and up to six years. The formal qualification window opened on 1 August 2026 and runs through 14 November 2026, closing five days prior to the official release of the game. Military officials indicated that the incentive format could be expanded to other units across the U.S. Army if reenlistment totals meet operational requirements.

Military commands routinely offer perks such as specific duty station choices, institutional training schools, and preferred leave windows to retain trained personnel. The Fort Stewart initiative follows broader federal retention efforts to improve troop continuity, prompting soldiers to review career choices well in advance of their end-of-service dates.

Commercial scale and game release
Grand Theft Auto VI, developed by Rockstar Games, is scheduled for commercial release on 19 November 2026 after more than a decade in production and several schedule adjustments. Advance orders for the title began on 25 June 2026, with the standard version listed at $79.99 and an ultimate edition priced at $99.99 that packages additional weapons, vehicles, and apparel. Production costs for the project are estimated to exceed $1 billion, ranking it among the most expensive entertainment products developed to date.
The game is set in a fictionalized version of Miami, featuring open-world gameplay with beaches, waterways, and urban environments shown in preliminary promotional material. It serves as the direct sequel to Grand Theft Auto V, which has sold more than 200 million copies since entering the market in 2013, continuing a franchise that originated in 1997.
During Take-Two Interactive's earnings report for the June quarter, chief executive Strauss Zelnick addressed consumer demand and retail expectations.
But they are so unprecedented that we just don't know how it'll translate into sales... We genuinely don't, and we just don't believe in claiming victory before it occurs.
