Poland's energy sector has achieved a historic milestone in its transformation process. At the end of 2025, the share of renewable energy sources in total installed capacity exceeded the 50% barrier for the first time in history. The Ministry of Climate and Environment also confirmed that electricity generation from green sources reached a record level of over 31%, representing a fundamental shift in the national energy mix.

Historic 50% Barrier

At the end of 2025, the share of renewable sources in installed capacity reached 50.04%, totaling 37,777 MW.

Record Electricity Production

Throughout the year, green energy installations produced nearly 55,000 GWh of electricity, accounting for 31.41% of total production.

Ministry Announces Breakthrough

Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska deemed these results a turning point for Polish energy and confirmation of the effectiveness of the transformation.

Poland's power sector underwent a historic transformation in 2025. As announced by Climate and Environment Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska, the share of renewable energy sources in installed capacity reached exactly 50.04% at the end of December. This means the total potential of green power plants amounted to 37,777 MW, allowing them to equal conventional coal- and gas-based capacity for the first time. This success is not limited to theoretical system capabilities but translates into real volumes of energy flowing to Polish consumers' sockets. For decades, Poland based its energy security almost exclusively on hard coal and lignite, conditioned by rich resources of these raw materials and infrastructure built during the communist era.Throughout 2025, installations from RES generated nearly 55,000 GWh of electricity. Their share in production amounted to 31.41%, marking a significant increase and proof of progressing decarbonization of the energy mix. The climate ministry emphasizes this is a breakthrough moment, reflecting high investment dynamics in the photovoltaics and onshore wind energy sectors. However, despite these optimistic figures, the Polish transmission system still faces challenges related to grid modernization and voltage stabilization given the variable, weather-dependent generation. „We have passed a breakthrough moment in the development of RES in Poland. For the first time in history, the share of renewable energy sources in our country's installed capacity has exceeded 50%.” — Paulina Hennig-KloskaShare in Energy Production (2025): RES: 31.41, Other Sources: 68.5937 777 MW — total installed RES capacity in PolandDevelopment of RES in the Polish System: Share in Capacity: below 50% → 50.04%; Share in Production: below 30% → 31.41%
