Mazda has unveiled the third generation of its mid-size SUV, the CX-5. The model has grown in all dimensions, gained a more modern design and more cabin space, especially in the rear seats. The key information is a starting price of 29,995 euros during the launch promotion, meaning the new car is cheaper than its predecessor. The base version is equipped with a 141 HP gasoline mild-hybrid engine that qualifies for an ECO label.

Lower Starting Price

The new CX-5 is offered from a price of 29,995 euros as part of the launch promotion. This is an amount lower compared to the prices of the previous generation model, representing a significant change in the context of general price increases in the automotive market.

Larger Dimensions and Space

The car has grown by 115 mm in length, 15 mm in width, and 30 mm in height. The wheelbase has been extended by 75 mm to 2,815 mm. This results in, among other things, an increase in knee space for rear passengers by 64 mm, as well as a larger trunk with a capacity of 583 liters (61 liters more than before).

New Mild-Hybrid Powertrain

The base powertrain is a new gasoline engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system producing 141 HP. This provides an ECO label designation, which may be associated with lower taxes. The car is offered with an automatic transmission.

Refreshed Design and Interior

The styling is maintained in the Kodo language, but with more pronounced wheel arches and a more massive front end, making the model resemble the brand's larger SUVs, such as the CX-60 and CX-80. The cabin has been refreshed and fully digitized, and the paint palette has been expanded to eight colors.

Mazda is introducing the third generation of its popular CX-5 SUV to the European market, including Spain. Media presentations were held in the area of El Vendrell near Barcelona. The presented offer is based on the principle of "more for less"; despite a clear increase in external dimensions and interior modernization, the starting price has been lowered compared to the previous model. In the context of the global trend of rising car prices, this is an unusual move noted by the media. In practice, the car is 11.5 cm longer, 1.5 cm wider, and 3 cm taller. The 7.5 cm longer wheelbase translates directly into significantly greater comfort for rear-seat passengers, which was one of the main goals of the modernization. Trunk capacity has increased to 583 liters, and with the rear seats folded down, it reaches 2,019 liters. The design evolves towards the brand's larger models while retaining its recognizable character. Journalists who had the opportunity to test the car around Barcelona emphasize that this is not a revolution, but rather a thoughtful evolution of a proven formula that has sold over five million units worldwide since its debut in 2012. The Mazda CX-5 is a compact SUV that debuted in 2012 as the direct successor to the Mazda Tribute. From the start, the car was characterized by a dynamic, sporty design in the Kodo style and rode the strong trend of increasing SUV popularity. The previous, second generation debuted in 2017. Since early 2023, the model was temporarily unavailable for sale, due to preparations for the introduction of the new version. As part of the launch offer on the Spanish market, a total discount of 5,200 euros is subtracted from the catalog price of 35,200 euros, including a 4,200 euro general discount and an additional 1,000 euros when choosing financing. The price reduction applies particularly to the base version, but the promotional offer covers the entire range, albeit to a lesser extent. Sales of the new model are scheduled to begin in the first decade of March 2026, ending a several-month hiatus in CX-5 availability on the market. Key for the market is the combination of a starting price below the psychological threshold of 30,000 euros with the offered equipment and dimensions. The model is an important part of Mazda's portfolio, which in recent times has maintained its market position thanks to the success of smaller models like the CX-30 and Mazda3. The return of the CX-5 is meant to strengthen this position. Journalists note that at a time when the market is focused on electrification, Mazda is also investing in the development of conventional, yet technologically advanced combustion engines, aiming for emission neutrality. „No sólo el eléctrico es el camino: coches de combustión neutros” (Not only electric is the way: neutral combustion cars) — 20 minutos
