Ukraine is grappling with an escalation of hostilities two days before the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion. Russia conducted a massive bombardment of Kyiv and other cities, using approximately 50 missiles and 300 drones, leading to damage to energy infrastructure. Simultaneously, a brutal terrorist attack in the form of a trap for police officers occurred in Lviv, resulting in the death of a policewoman and 25 people injured.
Massive Bombardment of Kyiv
Russia used 50 missiles and 300 drones in a massive attack on the capital and energy infrastructure.
Terrorist Attack in Lviv
Trap explosions killed a 33-year-old policewoman and injured 25 people; a woman collaborating with the FSB was detained.
Putin's Nuclear Threats
The Russian President declared the development of the nuclear triad an absolute priority following the collapse of the New START treaty.
Energy Crisis
The attacks caused severe damage to the grid; half of the occupied Zaporizhzhia region is without power.
Russian armed forces have intensified attacks on civilian and strategic targets across Ukraine, setting the stage for the fourth anniversary of the full-scale aggression. On Sunday morning, Kyiv became the target of a massive strike using ballistic and maneuvering missiles. Local authorities reported at least one fatality in the Kyiv region and injuries, including children. The attacks caused power supply disruptions, affecting even occupied areas; simultaneously, Ukrainian shelling damaged the grid in part of the Zaporizhzhia region, leading to temporary power outages in several localities, including Enerhodar. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the aggressor's main target remains Ukraine's energy system. Concurrently, in the western part of the country, in Lviv, a bloody incident classified as a terrorist act occurred. The perpetrators detonated two explosive devices hidden in trash bins, using the „double-tap” method – the second bomb exploded when emergency services arrived at the scene. In the attack, a 33-year-old policewoman was killed and 25 people were injured. The Security Service of Ukraine has already detained a 33-year-old female suspect, who, according to investigators, was acting on the orders of Russian special services. The double-tap method, involving attacking first responders arriving at the scene of the first explosion, was widely used by Russian forces in Syria and since 2022 has become a regular element of tactics in the war against Ukraine. At the same time, concerning declarations regarding global security have emerged from Moscow. Vladimir Putin announced that after the expiration of the New START treaty, Russia's priority becomes the development of its nuclear triad. This is allegedly supposed to guarantee „a balance of power in the world”. This announcement, combined with the intensification of terrorist attacks, indicates a further radicalization of the Kremlin's actions towards Kyiv and Western allies. „Це був цинічний і жорстокий терористичний акт. Ми маємо дані розвідки, що росіяни мають намір і надалі вчиняти такі речі проти українців.” (This was a cynical and cruel terrorist act. We have intelligence data that the Russians intend to continue committing such things against Ukrainians.) — Volodymyr Zelenskyy
