Ukraine is repelling the most severe wave of Russian attacks in months on the eve of the fourth anniversary of the full-scale aggression. On Saturday night into Sunday, Russian forces launched about 50 missiles and nearly 300 drones, targeting energy infrastructure and residential buildings across the country. Tragic events unfolded in Lviv, where a policewoman was killed in explosions. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the incident as a cynical terrorist attack.

Russian forces conducted a massive bombardment of Ukraine, using ballistic missiles, maneuvering missiles, and Shahed-type drones. The main strike hit Kyiv, Odesa, and Mykolaiv Oblast. In the capital and surrounding areas, at least several people were injured, including children, and shrapnel damaged residential buildings and the railway network. According to Ukrainian rescue services, at least one person died in Kyiv Oblast under the rubble of a hit house. Simultaneously, in the western part of the country, in Lviv, a series of explosions occurred, which authorities unequivocally deemed a terrorist attack. The first explosion occurred around midnight when a police patrol arrived at the scene of a reported break-in. Moments later, another detonation occurred. The toll of the tragedy in Lviv is one fatality — a policewoman — and 25 injured, some of whom are in serious condition. The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) detained a 33-year-old woman suspected of planting explosive devices hidden in trash bins. According to investigators, she acted on behalf of Russian special services. Since the start of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, Russia has regularly intensified airstrikes around dates of symbolic significance, aiming to sow panic and weaken societal morale. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned in an evening address that intelligence has information about further planned acts of terror by Moscow targeting civilians. Simultaneously, Vladimir Putin announced that Russia's absolute priority remains the development of the nuclear triad, following the expiration of the New START treaty. The situation on the front remains tense, and Ukrainian air defense is operating at maximum intensity, despite Hungary blocking further EU sanctions packages until oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline are resumed. „This is a cynical and cruel terrorist attack. We have intelligence that the Russians want to continue doing such things against Ukrainians.” — Volodymyr Zelenskyy
