Energa Operator announced historic records this week regarding the grid connection conditions issued for 2025. For renewable energy sources, conditions were issued for a capacity of nearly 2.5 GW, representing an increase of over 60% year-on-year. Furthermore, the operator noted a sharp increase, over 260%, in the number of conditions for larger energy storage facilities, which is set to improve grid flexibility.

Record RES Capacity Connected

In 2025, connection conditions were issued for renewable energy sources with a total capacity of 2.5 GW, which is the highest value in the company's history and a 60% increase compared to 2024.

Sharp Increase in Energy Storage

The number of conditions for larger energy storage facilities (above 50 kW) increased by over 260%, reaching a capacity of over 3.3 GW, which will improve grid flexibility.

Multi-Billion Investment Plan

The company is implementing an investment program worth 40 billion PLN until 2035 to prepare the grid for the growth of renewable and nuclear energy.

Dominance of Photovoltaics

About 80% of the issued connection conditions for RES concerned photovoltaic farms, confirming the dominance of this technology in Poland.

The distribution company Energa Operator recently published data for 2025, indicating an unprecedented acceleration in the process of connecting renewable energy sources and storage facilities to its grid. The latest and most detailed article from February 24, containing a statement from the CEO, confirms the broader strategic context of these results. In 2025, the operator issued grid connection conditions for RES with a total capacity of nearly 2.5 gigawatts (GW). According to data published on February 23, this value is a record for the company and represents an increase of over 60% compared to 2024 and as much as 190% compared to 2023. The dominant technology was photovoltaics, accounting for about 80% of this capacity. The energy storage segment developed even more dynamically. For installations with a capacity above 50 kW, connection conditions were issued for over 300 facilities, whose combined capacity exceeds 3.3 GW. This means an increase of over 260% year-on-year. „„Daje to potencjał na poprawę elastyczności sieci o około 30 proc. w ujęciu rocznym w odniesieniu do całościowego wolumenu dystrybucji”” — Energa Operator – emphasized the company. Over 21,000 home energy storage systems are already connected to the grid. Poland's energy transformation, a key element of which is moving away from coal towards RES, formally gained momentum after the government adopted the "Poland's Energy Policy until 2040" (PEP2040) in 2021. This document assumes, among other things, achieving a 32% share of RES in gross final energy consumption by 2030. One of the main challenges remains the modernization of the outdated distribution grid, which was not designed for distributed and unstable energy sources. The President of Energa Operator, Robert Świerzyński, stated in an interview on February 24 that the presented records fit into the company's multi-year investment plan. Its value until 2035 reaches 40 billion Polish zloty. The goal is to prepare the infrastructure for the growing influx of energy from offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea, onshore photovoltaics, and future nuclear power, as well as to reduce failure rates and facilitate prosumer connections. „„Stawiamy na klientocentryczność oraz kosztowo sprawiedliwą transformację”” — Robert Świerzyński – said the president, referring to the company's operating philosophy. Growth in RES capacity with connection conditions at Energa Operator: RES capacity with connection conditions: 2023 → 2025; Value: ~0.86 GW (estimate based on 190% growth) → 2.5 GW The intensive development of RES and storage is a response to growing investor demand but also poses an operational challenge for the grid operator. 40 mld zł — investment budget until 2035.
