Nearly 60 of the 100 new Mercedes-Benz Conecto articulated buses contracted by MPK in December 2024 for 411 million złoty have already arrived in Wrocław. This is the first stage of the largest investment program in the history of the municipal transport operator, which is set to acquire 448 new vehicles in the coming years. On Saturday, an official bus presentation combined with a picnic will take place on the Market Square, during which internet creator Biegprzemek will attempt to run a half-marathon inside one of the new vehicles.Polish cities, using EU programs and their own funds, have been modernizing their public transport fleets for years, gradually replacing old vehicles with new, low-emission models, although European Union regulations are increasingly promoting zero-emission transport.

MPK Fleet Replacement and Expansion

The Wrocław transport operator is implementing the largest investment program in its history, covering the lease of 100 Mercedes-Benz buses for 411 million złoty from 2024 and another hundred for 300 million złoty from October 2025. In total, 448 new vehicles are set to arrive, which are intended to fill the gap left by ended subcontractor contracts and replace the oldest vehicles.

Picnic and Unusual Sporting Event

On Saturday, February 28th, a picnic to celebrate the arrival of the first new buses will be held on Wrocław's Market Square from the side of Solny Square. The main attraction will be an attempt to run a half-marathon inside one of the vehicles by internet creator and runner Biegprzemek, who already has similar feats to his name, such as a marathon in a revolving door.

Last Chance for Combustion Engine Vehicles

According to the portal Wroclaw.pl, MPK used the last opportunity to acquire cheaper and simpler-to-operate combustion engine buses, because from this year similar operators can now only purchase zero-emission vehicles. The new vehicles are to be adapted to the needs of people with disabilities and meet high emission standards.

According to city authorities, this is the implementation of the first stage of the largest investment program in the history of MPK Wrocław. Modern buses, adapted to the needs of people with disabilities, equipped with safety-enhancing systems, and meeting high emission standards, are set to hit the streets. This coming Saturday, February 28th, the new vehicles will be presented to residents during a picnic on the Market Square. Starting at 9:00 AM from the side of Solny Square, two buses will be on display, and an hour later their official presentation with a chance to learn their specifications will begin. The main attraction of the event will be an unusual sports challenge – an attempt to run a half-marathon inside one of the buses. Internet creator and runner publishing under the pseudonym Biegprzemek, known for similar extravagant endeavors such as a marathon in a revolving door or a half-marathon around a pickled cucumber, is set to undertake it. According to the portal Wroclaw.pl, the delivery of the entire first hundred Mercedes vehicles is to be completed by the end of March. These vehicles are ultimately intended to fill the gap left by the vehicles of subcontractor firms – Michalczewski and Mobilis. After their contracts ended, MPK did not announce new tenders but took over these duties itself. The next hundred vehicles, contracted for 300 million złoty in October 2025, will not expand the fleet but will rejuvenate it by replacing the oldest buses. The portal points out that this was the last chance for the operator to acquire cheaper and simpler-to-maintain combustion engine vehicles, because according to regulations in force from this year, such operators can now only purchase zero-emission buses. In total, as part of the investment program, 448 new and modern vehicles are set to arrive in Wrocław in the coming years.
